An unexpected windfall from the Top Ryde development this week. Julianne Taffa from Taffa’s excellent Mitre 10 Hardware reports shopkeepers from Top Ryde coming down here to purchase hard-hats and dust masks to protect them whilst accessing their newly opened shops through building under construction zones.
Trouble in Paradise? Is the increasing penetration of party politics complicating life at Councillor level, Ryde City Council? It’s probably inevitable that aspiring politicians will test their skills by campaigning at Local Government level under the umbrella of one of the major parties.
Is a concerned and independent local resident committed to improving the lot of his/hers local and surrounding residents, the best candidate, or can a declared party member do the better job with guidance and support from the party machine?
$350,000 pa salary too much? The search for a new GM at Ryde City Council raised the issue of executive salaries in the local press last week. It appears the task of running Ryde Council rates a pay level equal to our Prime Minister’s. There will be plenty of differing opinions around and little consensus. Frankly, who would want either job? As GM/CEO of a major city council, the demands on skills, education, intellect, and strength of character are enormous. As PM you need all that, plus a bullet-proof ego to be able to withstand the zillions of pots-shots, missiles and stabs in the back directed at you 24/365.
Michael Todd, Austwise Tax Investment Services principal and Chamber Member is recovering from an unwelcome cardiac event. Michael tells me the problem has been corrected by inserting a stent in the trouble spot, a narrowed artery. So three weeks later, he is back at his desk, providing valuable tax and investment advice to his many clients. That’s the commitment and reliability of small business practitioners in West Ryde. A speedy and full recovery from all of us, Michael.
The Power of One was clearly evident in West Ryde yesterday. A local shopper busily on her way noticed a piece of litter blowing across her path, paused to pick it up, and disposed of offending piece in the next street bin. Believe it or not, another shopper, noticing this stooped to collect a similar piece and did likewise. Two good Samaritans, and a cleaner West Ryde. Well done, both of you.
