Council has now placed 2 arrows in the middle lane of Betts Road to assist cars turning into the Woolworth's car park. This should ease congestion and speed up the traffic flow. In addition they have increased the parking limit times on Maxim Street from 1 hour to 2 hours to assist the local dentist and her patients.
With regard to placing pedestrian crossings on Chatham Road and Betts Road, the council have informed me that it will clog up the traffic flow and they will not proceed with this. That does not assist the pedestrians who have to wait a long time to cross either roads.This might be fixed when the new development occurs in the opposite car park to Woolworth's.
Remo Properties have put in an amended plan to increase the number of stories from 7 to 8, decrease the basement level from 5 to 2, increase the number of apartments from 145 both 213 and reduce the number of car parking spaces accordingly. This was approved by council 7 to 5.
In addition I will be approaching Ryde council on behalf of the Chamber to look at putting bollards or barriers on the corner of Station Street and Victoria Road for the protection of pedestrians, as we had another car drive into Civic Video recently. As well we are looking at putting up barriers on Chatham Road to stop cars and trucks turning right into Graf Avenue, which also stops the traffic flow.
The chamber has also approached Ryde Council to put up banners for the month of December to brighten up West Ryde and have the Christmas theme spread around the precinct.This has been approved by council.
The next social will be held at the world famous West Ryde Hotel, and this will be the Chamber's Christmas party on the 25th November.
